Meet Our Expert Veterinary Team

    Our Team Wave

We are really proud of our friendly, expert team of vets, nurses and support staff.

Together, our expert veterinary team delivers superior service in all areas of veterinary care, including orthopaedic and soft-tissue surgery, diagnostic imaging, cardiology, and critical-care, ensuring the best outcomes for pet healthcare.

    Our Veterinary Surgeons

With hundreds of hours of advanced post-graduate training, our expert veterinary team is equipped to cover all aspects of modern veterinary care and provide you with the latest advice on pet healthcare. Most of our vets hold postgraduate certificates, allowing us to stand out from other practices and redefine your expectations of what first opinion vets can offer.

Ian Gibbs BVSc CertSAS GPCertSAS MRCVS

Ian graduated from Bristol in 1999 and has since gained a wealth of experience working in small animal practice across the UK. He achieved his RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Surgery in 2011, after bribing his examiners with chocolate cake.

In 2020, during a brief period of madness and enforced unemployment due to the COVID pandemic, Ian accidentally started Wave Vets with his wife Charlotte. Initially offering home visits for vulnerable and shielding pet owners, and conducting pop-up consultations in the back of an old ambulance, the practice has now evolved into a well-equipped facility with a team of experts dedicated to providing top-notch veterinary care and innovative pet healthcare solutions for treating poorly animals.

Harrison Phillips BVMedSci(hons) BVM BVS CertAVP MRCVS

Harrison graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2018 and has since worked at busy hospital practices in the midlands and the south-west, contributing to a dedicated expert veterinary team. In 2023, he took a yearlong sabbatical in New Zealand, where he continued his work in veterinary care while skiing and exploring the beautiful mountains during his spare time. In 2024, Harrison returned to Wave Vets, stepping into the role of ‘Medical Lead Vet’.

Harrison enjoys all aspects of pet healthcare, with special interests in cardiology, internal medicine, and ultrasonography. He has completed the RCVS post graduate certificate in advanced veterinary practice (CertAVP) with a focus on veterinary cardiology, achieving distinction. His considerable experience includes performing heart scans and diagnosing and managing a multitude of patients with valvular diseases, cardiomyopathies, and cardiac dysplasias. He is known for his intelligence and insightful contributions to the field.

When he's away from the practice, Harrison can be found secretly reading scientific journals, running a section of the south-west coast path, or planning his next hiking expedition.

Charlotte Stevens BSc (Hons) BVetMed PGCertSAECC MRCVS

Charlotte graduated from the RVC in London in 2013. After a brief period working in mixed practice, she quickly realised that she excelled in treating cats and dogs rather than cows and sheep. It was during this time that she met Ian, who shared her interests in soft tissue surgery, dark humour, and gin. Following her then-boyfriend (now husband) 'up north' to Gloucestershire, Charlotte worked in a busy hospital practice for several years, where she enhanced her skills in pet healthcare and earned a fancy pants certificate in 'Emergency Medicine & Critical Care' in 2021. In 2022, she joined the expert veterinary team at Wave after she and her husband decided to return home to Cornwall, complete with their cat and two little humans.

Joanne Monaghan BVMSci (Hons) MRCVS VN

After 15 years as a registered veterinary nurse, she reached the entirely logical conclusion that the veterinary nurses were the ones truly running the place. Finding it challenging to cope with that level of competence indefinitely, she thought becoming a vet might be the easier route.

In July 2025, she relocated to Cornwall and aimed to join our expert veterinary team at Wave Vets, drawn by our outstanding bucket-to-staff ratio and clear commitment to pet healthcare and organizational excellence.

Jo enjoys practical medicine, has a fondness for inappropriate humour, and loves animals in general.

Outside of work, she shares her home with two labradors, a horse, two British Shorthair cats, and her husband, Dom. She firmly believes labradors are the greatest dogs in the world.

Her favourite soup is cauliflower cheese, and you might spot her skipping on a daily basis, as she does so when she’s happy while working in the field of veterinary care!

    Willow Briggs BVSc MRCVS

Willow graduated from the University of Bristol in 2026. Originally from Dorset and unable to escape the south-west, she challenged herself to move even closer to Lands end!

Willow was hand picked from over 18 applicants to join Wave as our first new graduate vet! We were super impressed by both her knowledge and communication and are really pleased to have her as a member of our veterinary team. Willow was excited to join a community oriented vet practice and build trusting relationships with both clients and their pets during our 20 minute consultations.

Willow enjoys all things internal medicine, patient care and making Ian feel old. If you've not already met her, you may bump into her on the coast waving from her paddleboard or helping rescue seals. Alternatively, the M&S bakery section is a safe bet too!

    Our Client Care Team

Meet our wonderful client care team, Charlotte, Rachel and Esther, the friendly faces who greet you and your pets with a smile. Uniquely to Wave Vets, all of our client care team have previous experience as veterinary nurses, so they truly understand what both our clients and their animals need. Whether you’re calling to book an appointment, popping in for a chat, or relaxing in our spacious waiting area, we're ready to support you with personalised preventative healthcare tips, help managing your insurance queries, and, of course, we'll sneak in a cuddle with your furry friend. From the moment you pick up the phone to the moment you walk through our doors, they deliver a calm, caring, and exceptional experience. Their ability to juggle it all with ease is one of Wave Vet’s worst kept secrets!

Charlotte Gibbs CertNCS (VPM) (Practice Manager)

Charlotte co-founded Wave Vets with Ian in 2020, bringing together decades of experience as a qualified veterinary nurse with the skills she’s honed as a mother of two and partner to the wonderfully chaotic Ian.

A natural organiser and expert plate-spinner, Charlotte keeps the good ship Wave on course. You’ll often find her at reception, demonstrating her encyclopaedic knowledge of our clients and their pets, while simultaneously managing the countless behind-the-scenes jobs involved in running a small business. Alongside Ian, she’s the driving force behind Wave’s friendly, personal approach and the reason so many things run smoothly.

Rachel Burrill CertNCS (VCC) (Head Receptionist)

We were super lucky to welcome Rachel to the team in 2024 who has decades of experience as a veterinary nurse in both first opinion and referral level veterinary practices. Before joining Wave she was the head receptionist of a large veterinary practice in the South West so has brought a wealth of experience with her on how best to look after our clients whether they're calling for advice, booking appointments or making insurance queries.

    Esther Brier

Esther joined our practice in 2026 and is a familiar face to many of our lovely clients through her highly regarded dog-walking company. What some may not know is that Esther also has previous experience as a qualified veterinary nurse. She’s joined Wave Vets to bring her knowledge and experience back into veterinary care, combining her love of animals with her understanding of what makes them tick. We’re delighted to have her as part of the team!

    Our Veterinary Nurses

Our hand-picked team of nurses are the glue keeping our practice together offering a wealth of experience to make sure your pets are looked after whenever you come to visit. Our nurses have also undertaken further training in their areas of interest, adding to our team’s accomplishments.

    Ella Williams RVN

Ella joined Wave in 2024 as our resident cat lover offering unlimited amounts of cuddles to pets of a feline persuasion but still for a big soft spot for dogs. Ella's main interests are in-patient care and surgery when she can look after poorly pets and make them feel better with lots of cuddles when they're either waking up from a general anaesthetic or receiving medical treatment.

Ella is very level headed and unflappable and is an invaluable asset when dealing with emergency cases and pets with critical illness.

    Bee RVN

Bee qualified in 2018 and joined our expert veterinary team in a part-time role due to those pesky small people she lives with.

Bee is passionate about providing the best care she can to the pets she looks after. This manifests in her elevating the standards of anaesthetic monitoring, hospitalisation and nurse clinics. Bee loves nurse clinics, and is a strong advocate for pet health and wellbeing.

You'll find Bee armed with a cup of tea running her nurse clinics every Monday and Wednesday mornings, and some Friday afternoon appointments are also available. We host special monthly themes that range from adolescence health checks to geriatric screens to help keep your pets in tip-top condition.

Amelia joined our veterinary team as an Animal Care Assistant in September 2024. We are incredibly proud of her for passing her exams and are thrilled that she was able to become our first 'Trainee Veterinary Nurse' in September 2025, contributing to our commitment to exceptional pet healthcare and veterinary care.
